SUMMARY:Minnesota Literacy Day at the Capitol
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Minnesota Literacy Day at the Capitol. We continue to support strong implementation of the READ Act for students and teachers and looking for support on bills SF1842 & HF60 that would require teachers to receive two hours of professional development on dyslexia for teacher licensure requirements! Minnesota worked hard to pass The READ Act\, but we aren’t done and we need to show legislators we aren’t going anywhere until all can read. LITERACY FOR ALL! \nTo gain support for literacy bills now and in the future\, we need your help. Please contact both your MN Senator and your MN Representative to educate them on dyslexia and why requiring teachers to receive two hours of professional development on dyslexia for teacher licensure requirements is important for students and teachers. \nMinnesota needs to get this right. Can we count on you to be there? You will find more details about what to expect for the day on our Ways to Take Action page. \nAgenda:\nArrive a few minutes early\n9:45 am gather in the Rotunda\nParticipate in a group photo in the Rotunda (bring your poster).\n10:00 am Literacy Rally begins! Hear speeches from students\, teachers\, advocates\, and state legislators!\n10:45 am Crowd adjourns to mingle & attend meetings with legislators if you have made appointments. \nWhy is it important to attend? \nWe need to show the Governor and legislators that literacy is an important issue and that struggling with reading affects a significant part of the population. We need their support for legislative change. It is also a great opportunity for students to see democracy at work and to find strength in numbers. \nEngage your children! \n\nMake a poster with a slogan to show your support. Gather others in your district to make signs and plan to attend together.\nSet up an appointment now to meet your legislators before our rally day or join a group with a Lead going to a legislator meeting after the rally. Due to construction at the capitol\, this year a lot of legislators are meeting with their constituents on Fridays in their local district. Find talking point suggestions on our Ways to Take Action page.\n\n  \nRally Informational Flyer \nCapitol Parking Map \nInformational Leave Behind for Legislators
