End of Legislative Session Update for 2025
October 20, 2025
The Dyslexia Professional Development bill did not pass in the 2025 legislative session.
Dyslexia Professional Development bill – HF60 / SF1842 requires teachers to receive two hours of professional development on dyslexia for teacher licensure renewal. Specifics include: 1) the effects of dyslexia on the development of reading, 2) effective instructional needs for students with dyslexia, and 3) the mental and behavioral comorbidities of dyslexia.
The Dyslexia Professional Development bill had hearings in two Senate committees, and had good support in both the Senate and the House. We were not successful in having a hearing in the House. The challenges of bipartisan split committees, narrow priorities, and limited time to hear bills all were factors in why the Dyslexia Professional Development bill did not pass this session.
